CHICAGO – For area football fans searching for a way to satisfy their urge to watch some gridiron action, the Saint Xavier University football team may have the answer you are looking for. The No. 16 nationally ranked Cougars host their annual Scarlet & Gray Spring Scrimmage on Friday, April 25, at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago starting at 4:30 p.m. The scrimmage is free to attend and open to the public. Come out and get a preview of next season's squad a few months early. In addition, many of the SXU football players will also be taking part in some service projects around the community this weekend, including handing out candy for Misericordia and cleaning up some area parks.
"This is always a busy weekend for us, because it culminates the end of our spring practice sessions and we always stress to our guys the importance of giving back to the community," said Saint Xavier University football coach Mike Feminis. "The weather is supposed to cooperate tomorrow so hopefully we'll have a nice day for everyone to enjoy some football in April and get a sneak peek for the 2014 season. I have been impressed with what I've seen from our guys so far and I think our fans will be too."
SXU opens its 2014 campaign next fall on the road on Saturday, September 6, in a MSFA crossover battle with Marian University (Ind.). The kickoff time for the season opener has yet to be announced.
