Kansas City, Mo. – Mere hours after being named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week, Saint Xavier University senior Megan Nonnemacher (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) claimed the NAIA Softball National Pitcher of the Week recognition when the national office released the award Tuesday afternoon. Nonnemacher was selected based on her performance from April 14-20 and was chosen out of a pool of conference, independent and unaffiliated group winners. It is the first time in her career she has earned the national distinction. Her sister, sophomore pitcher Nicole Nonnemacher (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community), was named the NAIA National Pitcher of the Week back on March 18.
Nonnemacher recorded 23 strikeouts in 23 innings of work last week for the Cougars. She notched all three wins in shutout fashion, coming against Purdue North Central (Ind.) on April 17, William Penn (Iowa) on April 18 and Grand View (Iowa) on April 19, to improve to 17-1 on the season in the circle. Nonnemacher allowed just seven hits and two walks and held opponents to a .091 batting average. Her highlight came in the 1-0 blanking of William Penn, where she fanned 10 batters in 10 innings of work. She now has 11 shutouts on the season, a career-best. On the season, Nonnemacher ranks No. 5 in the NAIA in earned run average (0.71) and No. 8 in opponent batting average (.160).
Nonnemacher helped lead Saint Xavier to a perfect 6-0 week bringing the NAIA No. 10-ranked Cougars to 35-3 overall on the season. In conference play, SXU is 15-1, just a game and a half behind front-running Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.). The two teams square off in Bourbonnais, Ill., on Thursday, April 24, for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
