CHICAGO – For the second time this season, Saint Xavier University senior Megan Nonnemacher (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) has claimed a share of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) weekly softball accolades after being named the CCAC Pitcher of the Week for her performance on the field during the week of April 14-20. The announcement was made by the conference office Tuesday morning. Nonnemacher was virtually untouchable, posting three shutouts and holding opponents to a .091 batting average. In 23 innings of work, she allowed only seven hits, while striking out 23 batters against just two walks. The three shutouts give her a career-high 11 on the season.
Nonnemacher opened the week by tossing a six-inning one-hitter in a 12-0 victory over Purdue University-North Central (Ind.) on Thursday. In that game, she struck out eight batters and did not allow a walk. One day later, she had to go 10 innings before finally picking up a 1-0 win over William Penn University (Iowa). There, she totaled 10 strikeouts opposite just three hits and a pair of walks. Nonnemacher then closed out the week on Saturday with another three-hitter in a 2-0 decision over Grand View University (Iowa), a team that was receiving votes in the latest NAIA Softball Coaches' Poll. She struck out five batters that day without yielding a walk.
Nonnemacher has authored equally impressive numbers throughout the season, where she ranks among the top 10 players in the nation. She is fifth in earned run average (0.71), eighth in opponents' batting average (.160) and ninth in hits allowed per game (3.90). She is also 12th in the nation in wins with 17 opposite just one loss.
Nonnemacher helped lead Saint Xavier to a perfect 6-0 week bringing the NAIA No. 10-ranked Cougars to 35-3 overall on the season. In conference play, SXU is 15-1, just a game and a half behind front-running Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.). The two teams square off in Bourbonnais, Ill., on Thursday, April 24, for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
