Westville, Ind. – The combined efforts of sophomore Nicole Nonnemacher (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) and senior Megan Nonnemacher (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) allowed just one hit and no walks over two games as the No. 10 ranked Saint Xavier University softball team secured a pair of Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) victories from Purdue University-North Central (Ind.) Thursday evening in Westville, Ind. The Cougars (31-3 overall/15-1 CCAC) took the games in dominating fashion winning the opener, 9-0, behind a perfect game for Nicole Nonnemacher and Megan Nonnemacher allowed just one hit over six frames for a 12-0 win in the nightcap. Strikeouts for the pair of SXU hurlers were abundant as Nicole Nonnemacher racked up 11 in the first game and sister, Megan, posted eight in the finale.
There was no shortage of great offensive performers for Saint Xavier Thursday as well. Junior left fielder Katie Sears
(Chicago, Ill./Evansville/Mother McAuley) batted lead-off in both games and finished a combined 4-for-7 with a double, four runs scored and three RBI. Senior right fielder Katie Houlihan
(Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way North) also had a great showing at the plate Thursday going 4-for-6 with four runs scored and two RBI. Nicole Nonnemacher
was also tough with the bat for the Cougars with four hits, including a double, to go along with three runs scored and four RBI. Junior first baseman Amanda Hainlen
(Bloomington, Ill./Heartland CC/Bloomington) had a monster second game with a double, a home run, two runs scored and four RBI. With the two victories on the mound, Nicole Nonnemacher
moves her record to 13-2 on the year, while Megan Nonnemacher
improves to 15-1.
Saint Xavier (31-3 overall/15-1 CCAC) plays a four-game weekend stretch of non-conference home games starting today at 2 p.m. with a doubleheader against William Penn University (Iowa). The Cougars then take on Grand View University (Iowa) on Saturday, April 19, at 11 a.m. at SXU Softball Field. On Saturday, the three seniors on the 2014 SXU squad will be honored for "Senior Day."
