CHICAGO – Brittney van der Hoek, a senior forward/midfielder at Elkhart Central High School in Elkhart, Ind., recently signed a letter of intent to continue both her athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar women's soccer program. The Elkhart native will be a freshman at SXU in the fall of 2014 and compete for playing time at either a forward or midfielder position. Saint Xavier University women's soccer coach Evan Strehlau believes that van der Hoek has the abilities to compete for a starting spot on the Cougar squad as a freshman.
Van der Hoek is the daughter of Tino and Angie van der Hoek of Elkhart. She is currently coached by Chris Malott at Elkhart Central High School. During her impressive career with the Blue Blazers, van der Hoek finished up at No. 3 all-time at Elkhart Central in goals scored with 43. She earned all-Northern Indiana Conference honors multiple times over her standout career and was also named the team's offensive Most Valuable Player (MVP).
"The addition of Brittney to our program is going to be big for us," said Strehlau. "She has it all…speed, strength, skill, the ability to finish and is also a great student. Brittney will put a lot of pressure on our veterans for a starting role either in the midfield or up top. I'm really happy that she made the decision to continue her career at Saint Xavier University."
