South Bend, Ind. - Behind a second-place individual finish by senior James Kerr (Donegal, Ireland/Western Texas/Archbishop Ilsley), the Saint Xavier University men's golf team won the two-day Pilot Spring Invitational hosted by Bethel College (Ind.) Saturday at Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend, Ind. After shooting a tournament-best 67 in Friday's opening round, Kerr shot a 78 Saturday to take second place and finished just one spot behind the tournament winner, Ryan Hilton of Ashford University (Iowa), with a 144 (71, 73). The Cougars scored a 588 as a team with 288 on day one and 300 in the final round. Bethel College took second place with a two-day score of 596 (292, 304).
Senior Kirby Brown
(West Des Moines, Iowa/Kirkwood CC/Valley) took fourth overall in the field of 82 golfers with a total score of 146 (73, 73), while junior Kyle Bahnick
(Inverness, Ill./Carthage College/Palatine-Fremd) was right behind in a tie for fifth place with a score of 147 (73, 74). Wrapping up the Saint Xavier team scorers was senior Brendan Ryan
(Alsip, Ill./Moraine Valley CC/Shepard) with a combined score of 150 (75, 75) to finish in a tie for ninth place. Freshman Mark Kluk
(Palos Hills, Ill./Stagg) competed for SXU as an individual and finished in a tie for 55th place with a 165 (83, 82).
Saint Xavier gets back to action on Monday, April 21, to compete in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Golf Championship. The two-day tournament takes place at George Dunne Golf Course in Oak Forest, Ill.
