Palos Heights, Ill. –  A RBI double down the right field line by sophomore shortstop Alec Barnhart (Hometown, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) in the top of the ninth drove in the go-ahead run as Saint Xavier University captured a thrilling 5-4 victory in the second game of a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) doubleheader with Trinity Christian College  (Ill.) Monday afternoon in Palos Heights, Ill.  The Cougars (12-16 overall/7-3 CCAC) lost the first game by a score of 5-2.  Freshman right-hander Adrian Luna (Chicago, Ill./Washington) got the win in relief (4-2) throwing the final two innings and allowing just one hit, no runs and no walks with no strikeouts.

Freshman designated hitter Bryan Polak (Alsip, Ill./Marist) and freshman catcher Ryan Pellack (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way North) both recorded RBI in the top of the second inning of Monday's opener to give the Cougars an early 2-0 lead.  The Trolls came storming back in the bottom of the third inning when junior catcher Mark Munizzi hit a RBI double, and then two batters later, senior first baseman Danny Britt hit a three-run homer to make the score, 4-2.  TCC added another run in the bottom of the sixth off an error in the outfield and SXU managed just three hits the rest of the way en route to the 5-2 loss.  Freshman right-hander Jesse Lopez (Chicago, Ill./Washington) suffered the loss (1-3) on the mound for Saint Xavier.  He threw all six frames and gave up 11 hits, five runs (four earned) and no walks with a strikeout.

Trinity Christian scored first in the late game bringing home a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning off a foul pop-up with the bases loaded and a sacrifice fly.  The Cougars answered with a run in the top of the second when senior left fielder Brad Myjak (Tinley Park, Ill./Mount Carmel) scored from third base following an error by the TCC catcher.  Munizzi posted a RBI single in the bottom of the frame for the Trolls to give the hosts an early 3-1 lead.  In the top of the fifth, sophomore centerfielder Jim Augle (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards) got a RBI on a groundout and senior right fielder Chris Klein (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) followed that with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 3-3.  Senior first baseman Thomas Keating (Chicago, Ill./Joliet JC/St. Laurence) hit a homer in the next at-bat to give SXU the 4-3 advantage, but the Trolls tied the game again with a RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.  After two scoreless frames, Barnhart came up with the timely double to produce the eventual game-winning run.  Freshman right-hander Jeremy Dryier (Alsip, Ill./Shepard) got the start in game two for SXU and threw seven innings allowing 11 hits, four runs (all earned) and two walks with a strikeout.
