Riverside, Iowa – Senior Kirby Brown (West Des Moines, Iowa/Kirkwood CC/Valley) combined for a two-day total of 147 (73, 74) in leading the Saint Xavier University men's golf team to a fifth-place team finish at the Blue Top Ridge Invitational hosted by Mount Mercy University (Iowa) over the weekend in Riverside, Iowa. As a team, the Cougars finished with a team score of 605 (302, 303). The Mount Mercy Blue Team won the event with a two-day score of 581 (293, 288). It was the first tournament for SXU of the spring season in the Midwest.
Senior James Kerr (Donegal, Ireland/Western Texas/Arch Bishop Ilsley) finished the event with a two-day total of 152 (75, 77), while senior Brendan Ryan (Alsip, Ill./Moraine Valley CC/Shepard) and junior Kyle Bahnick (Inverness, Ill./Carthage College/Palatine-Fremd) both shot a 153 (78, 75) and (76, 77). Freshman Robert Lively (LaGrange, Ill./Nazareth Academy) rounded out the team scorers with a score of 160 (75, 85). Freshman Mark Kluk (Wauconda, Wis./American Military University) competed as an individual for Saint Xavier and turned in a 175 (86, 89).
"Our team was hoping for a better finish this weekend, but it was just a warm-up for NAIA Midwest Classic at the Brickyard in Indianapolis on Monday and Tuesday," said SXU golf coach Mike Mandakas.
Saint Xavier heads straight over to Indianapolis to take part in the two-day NAIA Midwest Classic at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course in Indianapolis. The Classic takes place on Monday, April 7 and Tuesday, April 8.
