Men's Soccer - Mon, Sep. 10, 2007
Davenport, Iowa - In a game filled with five yellow card warnings and four red card ejections, the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team came out on the short end dropping a 2-0 decision to St. Ambrose University (Iowa) Saturday in Davenport, Iowa. SXU fell behind early and never recovered despite three saves on the day by sophomore goalkeeper Ian Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic).
Junior forward Clint Mattingly got the scoring started for St. Ambrose when he scored on an unassisted breakaway just 12 minutes into the game. The second and final goal of the game came from junior midfielder Greg Lehman in the game's 34th minute following an assist from junior midfielder Michael Schuenemann. Per NAIA rule, the red card ejections will force three SXU players and the head coach to sit out Tuesday's game against Aquinas College (Mich.).
Saint Xavier (1-2 overall) heads to Grand Rapids, Mich., Tuesday to take on Aquinas in non-conference action. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. eastern start in Grand Rapids.
