Milwaukee, Wis. – Senior middle blocker J.T. O'Connell (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice) finished with a team-high six kills, but the Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team did not have a good offensive showing in a NAIA Great Lakes Division road loss to Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) Thursday night in Milwaukee, Wis. The Cougars (5-13 overall/5-5 GLD) fell in three straight sets by scores of 25-14, 25-11 and 25-16. SXU finished the match with more attacking errors (24) than kills (22) for a team attack percentage of -.026.
Sophomore middle blocker Sam Kull (Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South) and red-shirt freshman outside hitter Matthew Mead (Palos Park, Ill./Marist) each finished the match with four kills for Saint Xavier. Mead also posted two service aces and three digs on the night. Senior right side Jacob Siska (Hometown, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) led the Cougars with 13 assists to go along with a pair of kills.
Saint Xavier (5-13 overall/5-5 GLD) wraps up its 2014 regular season slate on Wednesday, March 26, with a non-conference match against NCAA Division III Lakeland College (Wis.). The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start in Plymouth, Wis. The regular season finale is actually a rescheduled match from February 4.
