Prescott, Ariz. – Junior Kyle Bahnick (Inverness, Ill./Carthage College/Palatine-Fremd) shot a combined 148 (72, 76) and finished in a tie for ninth-place overall in leading the Saint Xavier University men's golf team to a third-place team finish at the Embry-Riddle Spring Invitational last week at Antelope Hills South Golf Course in Prescott, Ariz. Bahnick shot a team-low round of 72 in the two-day Invitational's first day. The Cougars finished with a team score of 601 finishing behind host Embry-Riddle with a score of 577 and Arizona Christian University with a team score of 598. It was the first competition for SXU of the spring season.
Senior James Kerr (Donegal, Ireland/Western Texas/Arch Bishop Ilsley) finished in 11th place overall with a two-day score of 150 (73, 77). Senior Brendan Ryan (Alsip, Ill./Moraine Valley CC/Shepard) was right behind him in 14th place with a combined score of 151 (79, 72). Senior Kirby Brown (West Des Moines, Iowa/Kirkwood CC/Valley) took 15th place (tie) individually with a two-day score of 152 (74, 78) to wrap up the team scoring for the Cougars.
Freshman Robert Lively (LaGrange, Ill./Nazareth Academy) competed as an individual finishing 23rd overall and scoring a 157 (81, 76), while sophomore Zach Trent (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) tied for 26th overall with a score of 161 (82, 79). Freshmen Kyle Yaeger (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) and Mark Kluk (Wauconda, Wis./American Military University) also competed in the Invitational for SXU with Yaeger turning in a two-day score of 167 (80, 87) for 33rd place and Kluk with a 174 (86, 88) in 35th place.
Saint Xavier continues its spring season on April 4-5 at the Ashford University Invite in Riverside, Iowa. The two-day event takes place at Blue Top Ridge Golf Course in Iowa.
