Geneva, Ohio - The Saint Xavier University men's track team recently completed its indoor season at the 2014 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.  The Cougars sent three national qualifiers to compete in the event in seniors Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) and Shane Kenney (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) in the 1000-meter run and junior transfer Janis Pastars (Ogre, Latvia/Cameron University) in the mile run.  Corcoran finished 17th overall with a time of 2:32.62, while Kenney finished 18th in 2:34.66.  Pastars qualified for the mile finals with a time of 4:17.25 and then bested this time in the finals finishing ninth overall in a stellar 4:13.11 clocking.

"I am very proud of all of our guys performances, but especially Pastars," said SXU men's track coach Ed McAllister.  "He missed All-American status by just one spot, ran a personal record time and showed that he will be even better outdoors."

Saint Xavier continues its training in preparation for the upcoming outdoor season.  The Cougars open the new portion of the season on Saturday, April 5, at the University of Chicago at the Ted Haydon Invitational.  The meet is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
