CHICAGO – Senior outside hitter Justin Cousin (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) and sophomore middle blocker Sam Kull (Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South) kept up their great play by helping the Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team defeat NAIA Great Lakes Division foe Siena Heights University (Mich.) in SXU's regular season home finale Friday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (5-12 overall/5-4 GLD) won the match in four sets by scores of 25-20, 25-27, 25-19 and 25-11. Cousin led the attack with 16 kills on the evening, while Kull was tough both offensively and defensively posting 11 kills and 10 total blocks (two solos). SXU finished the match with a team attack percentage of .263 behind 49 kills and 19 attack errors.
Freshman setter Moises Lopez (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) recorded team-highs of 42 assists and nine digs for the Cougars Friday. Senior middle blocker J.T. O'Connell (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice) was also solid offensively racking up 10 kills for SXU and an impressive attack percentage of .353 (four attack errors). Freshman Dan O'Keefe (Evergreen Park, Ill./Loyola (La.)/St. Rita) also scooped up nine digs for the Cougars.
Saint Xavier (5-12 overall/5-4 GLD) plays its final two regular season matches on the road with a tough Great Lakes Division match against Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 20, in Milwaukee. The Cougars finish the regular season slate on Wednesday, March 26, against Lakeland College (Wis.). The non-conference match will take place at 7 p.m. and is being made up from its original date of February 4.
