Geneva, Ohio – Highlighted by 19th place finishes by senior Ashley Shares (Palos Park, Ill./Moraine Valley CC/Stagg) and the 4x800 meter relay team of junior Leslie Rosario (Fort Myers, Fla./Neosho County CC/North Fort Myers), senior Anna Galvez (Glenview, Ill./Oakton CC/Maine East), senior Jordan Wallace (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way North) and freshman Nicole Watkins (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett), a portion of the Saint Xavier University indoor track team wrapped up its indoor season at the 2014 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio, last weekend. Shares logged her fastest time of the season in the 5K (5,000 meters) at 18:13.56, while the 4x800 meter relay team set a new SXU record in the event with a 9:33.19 clocking, beating the previous record by 18 seconds.
"I'm so proud of these women and what they were able to accomplish at the national meet," said Saint Xavier University women's track coach Lisa Ebel. "Breaking a record is always exciting, but doing it at Nationals, makes it extra special. I'm glad these young ladies were able to achieve that. This is great momentum for our team heading into our outdoor season."
The Cougars begin their outdoor season on Saturday, March 29, at the Maple Leaf Invite hosted by Goshen College in Goshen, Ind. The meet will be held at the Eigsti Track and Field Complex.
