CHICAGO - Saint Xavier University senior Megan Nonnemacher (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) authored three shutouts to earn the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week honor for the week ending March 9 when it was announced by the league office Thursday afternoon. The award was the first of the weekly accolades for the 2014 softball season. Nonnemacher, the 2013 CCAC Pitcher of the Year, got off to an impressive start in her senior season by throwing the three complete-game shutouts over the weekend.
Nonnemacher earned a pair of 1-0 victories over Grace College (Ind.) and Cornerstone University (Mich.) before defeating Alderson Broaddus University (W. Va.), 9-0. In the Grace game last Friday, Nonnemacher allowed only five hits in seven innings. The next day was the best showing of her young season, going extra innings (8) to defeat Cornerstone, where she struck out 14 batters against only three hits and three walks. Nonnemacher closed out the week with another three-hitter on Sunday with 5 K's and no walks. For the week, she allowed only 11 hits in 20 innings, while striking out 23 opposite five walks over three starts to get the NAIA No. 5-ranked Cougars off to a perfect 6-0 start.
Saint Xavier (9-1 overall) is in the midst of its annual Florida trip participating in the National Training Center (NTC) Spring Games. The Cougars have six games remaining on the trip, which wraps up on Saturday, March 15.
