Kansas City, Mo. - The No. 6 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team has received a No. 2 seed for next week's 2014 NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championships in Sioux City, Iowa, when the seeds and pairings for the event were officially released by the NAIA national office Wednesday evening. The 32-team, single-elimination tournament is divided into four, eight-team brackets with teams seeded one through eight based off the final NAIA Top 25 Ratings Poll released earlier this afternoon. The Cougars match up against No. 7 seeded College of the Ozarks (Mo.) in first-round action on Thursday, March 13, with a scheduled 8:30 a.m. (central) tip-off at the Tyson Event Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
College of the Ozarks (Mo.) comes into the NAIA National Championship boasting a 23-9 overall record and also received one of the 11 at-large bids to play at the National Championship. The Bobcats are making their 20th overall appearance at the NAIA National Championship and their 13th straight dating back to 2002.
Saint Xavier finished the season posting a 27-5 overall record. SXU fell in the semifinals round of the 2014 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament to Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) on a buzzer-beater, 91-89. However, SXU still received an at-large bid for the NAIA National Championships due to its national ranking. This marks the 12th straight season that SXU has advanced to the NAIA National Championships, which begins on Wednesday, March 12.
