CHICAGO - With the 2014 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Basketball Tournament wrapping up this afternoon in Hammond, Ind., the Saint Xavier University women's basketball team got some great news Saturday when junior forward Morgan Stuut (Marcellus, Mich./Three Rivers) was named the CCAC Women's Basketball Player of the Year for the second straight season. She joins fellow junior teammate, guard Suzie Broski (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) on the 2013-14 All-CCAC Women's Basketball Team when the 20-player squad was released by the conference Saturday evening in conjunction with the conclusion of the tournament championship. Stuut was one of just five players to earn first team recognition, while Broski earned a spot on the 10-member honorable mention team.
Stuut finished the conference season ranked in the top 10 of no fewer than seven statistical categories topped by her No. 1 billing as the league's best rebounder averaging 13.4 boards per conference game. She was also second in both scoring (21.6 points per game) and steals per game (2.9) and sixth in assists (4.3 assists per game). Her other top marks came in field goal percentage (.484), where she ranked 10th, and blocks per game (1.3), where she tied for 10th. Broski ranked No. 13 in the league in scoring (14.9 points per game) and was fourth overall in field goal percentage (.530).
Due to its high national ranking in the NAIA Top 25, Saint Xavier will earn an at-large bid to the 2014 NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship. The 32-team, single elimination tournament kicks off on Wednesday, March 12, in Sioux City, Iowa. The seeds and pairings for the national tournament are scheduled to be released by the NAIA national office on Wednesday, March 5, via an online selection show set to air at 7 p.m. (central).
