Georgetown, Ky. –  Despite a two-run homer to right field by sophomore shortstop Alec Barnhart (Hometown, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) in the fifth inning of game one, the Saint Xavier University baseball team fell in another doubleheader with No. 23 ranked Georgetown College (Ky.) Sunday at Robert N. Wilson Field in Georgetown, Ky.  The Cougars (0-4 overall) went to extra frames in the opener before falling 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning.  The Tigers scored the first six runs in the late game en route to a 6-2 victory and the series sweep.  The homer by Barnhart was the first of his collegiate career.  Senior first baseman Thomas Keating (Chicago, Ill./Joliet JC/St. Laurence) had a nice day offensively as well for SXU going a combined 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and two RBI.

Sunday's first game started out as a pitcher's duel between senior right-handers Shaun Meyer and Chris Klein (Huntley, Ill./Huntley).  After four scoreless innings, sophomore centerfielder Steve Carrabotta (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) hit a one-out double to left field in the top of the fifth that set the stage for Barnhart's two-run shot in the next at-bat.  The Cougars carried the 2-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth before a two-run homer to left field by Georgetown senior first baseman Martin Lemus tied things up.  After SXU left runners stranded at second base in the top of the seventh and eighth innings, the Tigers ended the game on a RBI double to centerfield by junior shortstop Steven Mancilla.  Junior right-hander Dan Wetzel (Tinley Park, Ill./Providence Catholic) recorded the loss in relief of Klein.  Wetzel threw 1.1 innings and allowed four hits, one run (earned) and a walk with a pair of strikeouts.  Klein went the first six frames and gave up seven hits, two runs (one earned) and no walks with five strikeouts.

The Cougars mustered just three hits in Sunday's second game with Keating providing the only run production on a two-out, two-run single up the middle in the top of the fifth.  Unfortunately for Saint Xavier, the Tigers had already scored six runs over the first four frames.  Barnhart and freshman third baseman Bryan Polak (Alsip, Ill./Marist) scored the pair of runs on Keating's single.  Freshman right-hander Justin Dryier (Alsip, Ill./Shepard) suffered the loss as SXU's game two starter.  Dryier threw the first four innings and allowed eight hits, six runs (all earned) and two walks with a pair of strikeouts.  The game was called early in the bottom of the sixth inning due to falling snow.
Saint Xavier (0-4 overall) heads south again next weekend playing a four-game series with Culver Stockton College (Mo.) in Canton, Mo.  The Cougars play a noon doubleheader on both Saturday, March 1, and Sunday, March 2, at Nichols Field in Canton.
