Palos Heights, Ill. - Four players scored in double figures Saturday as No. 7 Saint Xavier University captured a 70-62 road victory over Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) men's basketball clash as the regular season finale for both teams in Palos Heights, Ill.  Senior guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) and junior guard Jack Krieger (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) each scored 16 points to lead the way, while senior point guard Michael Simpson (North Chicago, Ill./Cardinal Stritch/North Chicago) and sophomore forward Josh Mawhorr (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central) chipped in 13 and 11 points, respectively.  SXU finishes the regular season with a stellar 26-4 overall record and finishes second in the CCAC standings at 16-3.

Karp also led the Cougars on the boards finishing with a game-high 13 rebounds.  Krieger just missed a double-double effort with nine rebounds to go along with his game-best four steals.  He also hit three of his six three-point attempts in the game.  SXU led for most of the game, but the Trolls definitely did not make things easy for the visitors.  After a slow start, a three-pointer by Karp sparked a 14-3 run that put Saint Xavier ahead, 21-15, at the midpoint of the first half.  Leading 34-26 at the break, the Cougars continued to pour it on taking a 15-point lead (48-33), their largest of the game, on a three-pointer by Krieger with 13:28 to play.  TCC got as close as four points in the final seven minutes of action, but SXU was able to keep the Trolls at bay hitting key baskets and free throws down the stretch.
Saint Xavier (26-4 overall/16-3 CCAC) now prepares for next week's CCAC Men's Basketball Tournament, which begins on Monday, February 24.  The Cougars have a first-round bye and host a quarterfinals game at the Shannon Center on Wednesday, February 26.  Game time and opponent has yet to be determined.
