Grand Rapids, Mich. - Behind an 11th place finish by sophomore Lauren Dentzman (Lemont, Ill./Lemont), the No. 24 ranked Saint Xavier University women's cross country team had a strong showing Friday at the competitive Aquinas Cross Country Open at Riverside Park in Grand Rapids, Mich. The Cougars finished fifth out of the nine teams competing falling to NCAA Division II Grand Valley State, No. 18 Indiana Tech, No. 19 Aquinas (Mich.), and No. 26 Cornerstone (Mich.), respectively.
Dentzman finished the 5K race with a time of 19:20 to nab the No. 11 overall spot. Other top finishers for SXU included: freshman Dana Eppley (Palos Heights, Ill./Shepard) in 27th place at 19:57, sophomore Amy Poull (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) in 30th with a time of 19:59, freshman Jade Braden (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) in 40th at 20:20, sophomore Megan Syring (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) in 44th place at 20:30, and freshman Kelly Malone (Oak Lawn, Ill./Mother McAuley) in 48th at 20:36.
Saint Xavier continues its season next weekend by participating in the National Catholic Championships hosted by the University of Notre Dame (Ind.) in South Bend, Ind. The women's race will kick off at 5 p.m. (eastern) on Friday, September 14, at the Burke Memorial Golf Course in South Bend.
