Deerfield, Ill. – Racking up 17 steals and scoring 39 of its points off the opposition's turnovers, the No. 6 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team used a strong defensive effort to roll to a 94-50 road victory over Trinity International University (Ill.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play Saturday evening at the Meyer Sports Complex in Deerfield, Ill. Junior forward Morgan Stuut (Marcellus, Mich./Three Rivers) helped lead the charge totaling game-bests of 22 points, 11 rebounds and five steals. The Cougars (24-4 overall/14-2 CCAC) also held the host Trojans to just 32 percent (17-for-53) shooting from the field in the game.
Junior guard Suzie Broski (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) was the other Saint Xavier player to score in double figures Saturday posting 12 points. All 12 players who saw action for the Cougars in the game scored at least two points. Sophomore forward Caitlin McMahon (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) finished with nine points and five rebounds, while redshirt freshman guard Sidney Prasse (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) also tallied nine points to go along with four assists. The game got off to a slow start with SXU leading 7-2 after the first six minutes of play, but the Cougars warmed up and took a 42-22 lead into the locker room at halftime. A 15-2 run to open the second half sealed the deal as the Cougars built as large as a 44-point advantage in the closing seconds of regulation.
Saint Xavier (24-4 overall/14-2 CCAC) hosts Roosevelt University in conference play on Wednesday, February 19. The regular season home finale for the Cougars is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start on Bob Hallberg Court at the Shannon Center in Chicago. Prior to the game, SXU will honor its four seniors on the 2013-14 roster in recognition of "Senior Day."
