Elgin, Ill. – Senior guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) and sophomore forward Josh Mawhorr (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central) shot a combined 17-for-28 from the field and tallied 45 points as No. 5 ranked Saint Xavier University cruised to a 94-43 road victory over Judson University (Ill.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) men's basketball action Saturday afternoon in Elgin, Ill. The Cougars (23-3 overall/13-2 CCAC) opened the game with a 15-6 run en route to a 44-22 halftime lead. Karp led SXU in scoring with 26 points to go along with six rebounds, while Mawhorr had a double-double effort of 19 points and team-best 11 rebounds. Mawhorr was hot from beyond the arc converting five of his six three-point attempts.
Junior guard Jack Krieger (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) finished with 14 points and three steals, while senior point guard Michael Simpson (North Chicago, Ill./Cardinal Stritch/North Chicago) chipped in 10 points toward the win. The Cougars shot an impressive 57 percent (37-for-65) from the field for the game. SXU was tough defensively as well limiting the host Eagles to just 29 percent shooting (15-for-52) and helping force 16 JU turnovers behind nine steals. The Cougars built their largest lead of the night, 92-38, with 3:16 left to play in regulation.
Saint Xavier (23-3 overall/13-2 CCAC) plays host to Robert Morris University (Ill.) in conference play on Wednesday, February 12. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
