CHICAGO – Sophomore middle blocker Sam Kull (Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South) finished with team-bests of seven kills and two block assists, but the struggles continued for the Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team falling in three sets Friday night to No. 3 ranked Missouri Baptist University (Mo.) on Bob Hallberg Court at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (0-7 overall) lost by scores of 16-25, 15-25 and 18-25. The visiting Spartans racked up 37 kills and committed just 11 attacking errors in the match for a team attack percentage of .338. SXU totaled 25 kills, but had 21 attacking errors.
Senior middle blocker J.T. O'Connell (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice) posted six kills and a solo block, while freshman setter Moises Lopez (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) tallied 17 assists and four digs. Senior outside hitter Justin Cousin (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) finished the night with five kills and five digs for the Cougars. Missouri Baptist was led offensively by freshman outside hitter Mico Janicijevic with nine kills.
Saint Xavier (0-7 overall/0-1 GLC) heads north to Plymouth, Wis., on Tuesday, February 4, to take on NCAA Division III Lakeland College (Wis.). The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
