CHICAGO – Freshman outside hitter Sean Barry (Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy) led the way with 10 kills and the team's lone service ace, but the Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team fell to No. 6 ranked Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) in three sets Wednesday night on Bob Hallberg Court at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (0-6 overall) lost by scores of 17-25, 15-25 and 15-25. The Fighting Bees were tough offensively racking up an attack percentage of .342 (37 kills, 10 attacking errors) in the match to go along with seven service aces.
Other notable performers for SXU Wednesday were senior middle blocker J.T. O'Connell (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice) and senior setter Jacob Siska (Hometown, Ill./Oak Lawn Community). O'Connell finished the night with eight kills and a block assist, while Siska posted team-bests of 26 assists, five digs and three total blocks (two solos). Saint Ambrose was paced by sophomore Ryan Mahl with 14 kills.
Saint Xavier (0-6 overall/0-1 GLC) continues its season on Friday, January 31, with another home match against No. 3 Missouri Baptist University (Mo.). The match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start on Bob Hallberg Court.
