Bourbonnais, Ill. – Taking third place overall in the event at the NCAA vs. NAIA Challenge hosted by Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Ill., over the weekend, Saint Xavier University's women's 4x800 meter relay team qualified for the 2014 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships with a "B" standard qualifying time of 9:51.41. The relay team consists of junior Leslie Rosario (Fort Myers, Fla./Neosho County CC/North Fort Myers), sophomore Dana Martin (Chicago, Ill./Marist), senior Jordan Wallace (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way North) and freshman Nicole Watkins (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett). The "A" standard qualifying time is 9:47.00 with the "B" standard at 9:55.00.
"I'm very excited to see how our 4x800 team progresses through the season," said SXU women's track and field coach Lisa Ebel. "The way this team has worked together in practice has laid the groundwork for great improvement throughout the season. I'm thrilled that this group gets the opportunity to race at the national meet and confident that it will be a wonderful experience and great challenge for them."
The 2014 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships will be held from March 6-8 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The 4x800 meter relay team joins senior Ashley Shares (Palos Park, Ill./Moraine Valley CC/Stagg) as the current two national indoor track qualifiers for SXU this season.
