Palos Hills, Ill. - Sophomore Lauren Dentzman (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) finished seventh overall with a time of 11:37 on the two-mile course to lead the No. 24 ranked Saint Xavier University women's cross country team to an impressive showing at the University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) Invitational Saturday in Palos Hills, Ill. SXU also got strong outings out of two of their eight new freshmen with Dana Eppley (Palos Heights, Ill./Shepard) finishing 15th at 12:07 and Kelly Malone (Oak Lawn, Ill./Mother McAuley) garnering 17th place with a time of 12:09.

The meet was scored as a dual meet with Saint Xavier finishing ahead of some NCAA Division I programs, including host UIC, Chicago State University, and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Out of the eight teams participating in the event, SXU finished fourth falling to Division I programs DePaul University (Ill.), Loyola University (Ill.), and Northwestern University (Ill.).

"This meet was a great way to open our season, because we got to face some really tough competition," said Saint Xavier University women's cross country coach Lisa Ebel. "Lauren knocked 30 seconds off her time for this same course from a year ago and our freshmen really stepped it up. Our team put up some solid times from top to bottom and I am very proud of how they ran this weekend."

Other finishers for the Cougars included: sophomore Amy Poull (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) in 18th place with a time of 12:11, sophomore Megan Syring (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) in 26th at 12:32, freshman Jade Braden (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) in 28th place at 12:36, sophomore Nicolle Bartels (Chicago, Ill./Marian Catholic) in 36th at 12:50, freshman Katy Thomson (Matteson, Ill./Marian Catholic) in 38th at 12:51, sophomore Amanda Janosz (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) in 43rd place at 13:03, freshman Ann Godette (Tinley Park, Ill./Tinley Park) in 46th at 13:19, and junior Alison Schultz (Tinley Park, Ill./Bradley University) in 49th at 13:31. There were 70 individual runners who participated in Saturday's UIC Invitational.

Saint Xavier heads to Grand Rapids, Mich., this weekend to participate in the Aquinas College (Mich.) Invitational. The 5,000-meter women's race will begin at 5 p.m. eastern time in Grand Rapids.
