Joliet, Ill. - Despite a team-high nine kills from senior middle blocker Tara Breshock (Lansing, Ill./TF-South), the Saint Xavier University volleyball team could not come up with a victory Tuesday night in its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) opener against University of St. Francis (Ill.) in Joliet, Ill. The Cougars (3-2 overall/0-1 CCAC) dropped the match in three straight games 22-30, 29-31, and 23-30.

In addition to Breshock, senior outside hitter Jessica Synowiecki (Oak Lawn, Ill./Moraine Valley CC) also played well for SXU finishing with six kills and nine digs, while senior libero Emily Soto (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Junior College) led the team in digs with 15. Senior setter Traci Looby (Orland Hills, Ill./Andrew) led the team with 26 set assists.

Saint Xavier (3-2 overall/0-1 CCAC) hosts the SXU Cougar Invitational this weekend with matches set to begin Friday, September 7, at 4 p.m. The Cougars will open the 10-team event with a 4 p.m. match Friday against University of Saint Mary (Kan.).
