Kansas City, Mo. - Morgan Stuut of Saint Xavier University (Ill.) has been named the NAIA National Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week as announced by the national office Tuesday. Stuut was selected based on her performances from Jan. 6 – 12 and was chosen out of a pool of conference and independent award winners. Stuut, a native of Marcellus, Mich., averaged a double-double with 22.5 points and 17.0 rebounds per game last week to lead SXU to a pair of Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) victories.
In the week's opener against Trinity Christian College (Ill.) on Jan. 8, the junior forward fell one assist short of her second triple-double of the season with 12 points, 17 rebounds and nine assists. Stuut also added four steals and three blocks in the eighth-ranked Cougars' 60-49 win. Three days later against IU South Bend (Ind.), Stuut recorded her fourth 30-point effort of the season with a game-high 33 points on 10-of-22 shooting (45.5 percent). In addition to scoring, she grabbed 17 rebounds for the second-straight game en route to her fifth-straight double-double.
On the year, Stuut, who paces the Cougars in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks, also leads the NAIA in total rebounds with 230. In addition, she ranks among the top 10 nationally in defensive rebounds per game (9.1), rebounds per game (12.8), total scoring (367), 3-point field goal percentage (.443) and points per game (20.4).
Saint Xavier (15-3 overall/6-1 CCAC) continues its season on Wednesday, January 15, with a non-conference game against Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). The game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start at Bob Hallberg Court in the Shannon Center in Chicago.
