Des Moines, Iowa – Despite eight kills and two service aces by senior outside hitter Justin Cousin (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest), the Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team dropped its 2014 season opener to No. 4 ranked Grand View University (Iowa) Saturday afternoon at the CS Johnson Center in Des Moines, Iowa. The Cougars (0-1 overall) fell in three sets in the non-conference match by scores of 25-12, 25-16 and 25-22. SXU struggled offensively totaling 14 attacking errors compared to 17 kills in the match.
Sophomore middle blocker Sam Kull (Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South) finished with three kills and two block assists for the Cougars, while senior setter Jacob Siska (Hometown, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) had 14 assists and three aces. Cousin also finished the match with three block assists and three digs.
Saint Xavier (0-1 overall) hosts its home opener on Tuesday, January 14, with another non-conference match against No. 10 ranked Clarke University (Iowa). The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start on Bob Hallberg Court at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
