South Bend, Ind. - Juniors Morgan Stuut (Marcellus, Mich./Three Rivers) and Suzie Broski (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) combined for 54 points and 23 rebounds in leading No. 8 ranked Saint Xavier University to a key Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) road win over Indiana University-South Bend (IUSB), 82-67, in NAIA women's basketball action Saturday afternoon in South Bend, Ind. Stuut notched her 13th double-double of the season with another monster effort of 33 points and 17 rebounds, while Broski hit 10 of her 17 shot attempts for 21 points and six rebounds. It was the 10th straight victory for the Cougars, who have not lost since November 30, 2013, and improve to 15-3 on the year and 6-1 in conference play.
With the game tied at 8-8 four minutes into action, Stuut scored seven straight points to lead a 7-0 run and give SXU a 15-8 lead with just under 14 minutes left to play in the opening half. The Titans cut into the lead, but the Cougars kept them from tying the game or taking the lead the rest of the half. A three-pointer by Stuut and a jumper by Broski late in the frame helped Saint Xavier take a 44-37 advantage into halftime. SXU controlled the game in the second half extending its lead into double figures for most of the frame and using a 13-0 run to push its lead to as many as 18 points. The Cougars did an excellent job of limiting their mistakes committing just eight turnovers in the game.
In addition to Stuut and Broski, red-shirt freshman guard Sidney Prasse (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy), senior forward Chrissy Heine (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) and junior guard Maloree Johnson (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) each chipped in six points toward the winning effort. SXU took advantage of IUSB's turnovers as well scoring 21 of its points off the Titans' 15 miscues. Indiana-South Bend was led by junior center MeMaegan Callaway with a double-double of 26 points and 14 rebounds.
Saint Xavier (15-3 overall/6-1 CCAC) hosts Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) on Wednesday, January 15, for a non-conference match-up. The home game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
