CHICAGO – Behind 16 points and six rebounds by junior guard Suzie Broski (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic), the No. 8 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team pulled away late to capture a 60-49 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) victory over Trinity Christian College (Ill.) Wednesday evening on Bob Hallberg Court at the Shannon Center in Chicago.  The Cougars (14-3 overall/5-1 CCAC) had another solid defensive outing holding the visiting Trolls to just 26 percent (15-for-58) shooting from the field and 17 turnovers aided by 12 SXU steals.  Saint Xavier scored 16 of its 60 points in the game off the TCC turnovers.

Junior forward Morgan Stuut (Marcellus, Mich./Three Rivers) just missed a triple-double finishing with 12 points, 17 rebounds and nine assists.  She also tallied four steals and three blocked shots on the night.  Senior point guard Niara Harris (Richton Park, Ill./Robert Morris/Rich South) chipped in eight points for SXU, while sophomore Caitlin McMahon (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) tallied seven points, seven rebounds and three blocks.  The Cougars used a 9-0 run midway through the first half to build a 22-10 lead with 6:24 left to play in the half.  After pushing the lead to 14 points (29-15) on a lay-up by McMahon with 3:35 remaining, the Trolls closed out the frame with an 8-0 run to make the score, 29-23, at the break.  Trinity Christian continued to chip away at the deficit in the second half and took a three-point lead with 12:29 left in the game before the Cougars scored 10 unanswered points capped by a Harris jumper to pull away for good.

Saint Xavier (14-3 overall/5-1 CCAC) heads to South Bend, Ind., on Saturday, January 11, for another conference match-up against Indiana University-South Bend (IUSB).  The game is scheduled for a noon (eastern) start.
