Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University senior guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) has pulled off the trifecta, earning his third straight and fourth Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week honor this season for his performance during the week ending Dec. 29, it was announced by the league office Tuesday. Karp led the Cougars to the title of the SXU Midwest Tournament with a 23-point, 10-rebound, 4-assist effort in an 85-76 championship game victory over NAIA No. 14-ranked Bellevue University (Neb.) last Monday.
Karp also shot 10-of-16 from the field (.625) and converted three free throws in the only game of the week for Saint Xavier. Named the tournament's MVP following the tournament, he also leads the league in scoring by better than six points per game over his next closest challenger, averaging 28.1 points per contest. Karp also ranks second in steals per game (2.7), fourth in field goal percentage (.617) and fifth in rebounding (8.4 rpg). SXU, which is ranked No. 10 in the latest NAIA poll, has won nine games in a row to put the Cougars at 13-2 overall on the season.
Saint Xavier (13-2 overall/4-1 CCAC) returns to action on Sunday, January 5, with a home game against Silver Lake College (Wis.). The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start at the Shannon Center.
