Joliet, Ill. - After taking one week off the awards circuit, Saint Xavier University junior forward Morgan Stuut (Marcellus, Mich./Three Rivers) is back on it earning her fourth Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor after averaging a double-double over two games during the week ending Dec. 29 when it was announced late Tuesday by the league office. Stuut put together another solid all-around effort in SXU's two victories at the Cougars' own Holiday Classic last week. She averaged 24.0 points, 14.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals, 3.0 assists and 2.5 blocks per game to also claim all-tournament recognition.
For the two games, Stuut shot .536 from the field (15-of-28), including 5-of-11 from three-point range (.455), while also converting 13-of-15 free throws. She opened the tournament with a 32-point, 10-rebound performance in a 76-66 win over Ashford University (Iowa) last Saturday. She also registered three steals, three blocks and two steals in the game, while making good on 12 of her 13 free throw attempts. On Sunday, Stuut authored her 11th double-double of the season totaling 16 points and 19 rebounds to go along with four assists, four steals and two blocks in a convincing 70-47 victory against Lourdes University (Ohio).
Stuut ranks in the top seven in the conference in no fewer than five statistical categories highlighted by her league-leading 12.3 rebounds per game. She also ranks third in both scoring (20.1 ppg) and assists per game (4.4), fourth in three-point accuracy (.459) and seventh in free throw percentage (.796). Saint Xavier, which went a perfect 8-0 in December, is 13-3 on the season. The Cougars rank No. 8 in the latest NAIA poll.
Saint Xavier (13-3 overall/4-1 CCAC) returns to action and CCAC play on Wednesday, January 8, with a home game against Trinity Christian College (Ill.). The game starts at 5 p.m. at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
