CHICAGO - Saint Xavier University senior guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) is on a roll. He claimed his second straight Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week award and his third one of the season after averaging 31.7 points and 7.3 rebounds in three Cougar victories last week when the league made the announcement Tuesday afternoon. Karp, who tallied no less than 26 points in any of the three games, ranks third in the nation in scoring at 28.1 points per game, while ranking sixth in steals (2.7 per game) and 12th in field goal percentage (.617).
Karp converted at the same clip from the field this past week hitting on 29 of his 47 shots, while also nailing 10 of 15 three-pointers. At the foul line, Karp missed only six of 33 attempts (.818) and was a perfect 14-for-14 in a 99-73 victory against No. 21-ranked Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) Sunday. In that game, Karp registered his highest point total of the week with 38 points. He also pulled down seven rebounds. One night earlier, he recorded six three-pointers in eight attempts on his way to a 31-point, 7-rebound, 2-assist game in a 108-79 victory over Goshen College (Ind.) to open the SXU Midwest Tournament. Karp started his busy week on Thursday when he put up 26 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals in a 68-63 conference road victory over Roosevelt University, which was among others receiving votes in the latest NAIA poll.
After wrapping up the tournament title with an 85-76 victory over No. 14-ranked Bellevue University (Neb.) on Monday night, the No. 10-ranked Cougars are now 12-2 on the season with wins in their last nine contests. Saint Xavier continues its season after the New Year with a home game against Silver Lake College (Wis.) on Sunday, January 5. The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
