Kansas City, Mo. – Seven players represented Saint Xavier University as part of 259 NAIA football student-athletes nationwide named as 2013 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes when the honors were recently released by the national office. The Cougars include: junior defensive lineman JD Barchard (Crystal Lake, Ill./Sioux Falls (S.D.)/Crystal Lake South), senior linebacker Zach Dolph (Crest Hill, Ill./Joliet Catholic), junior defensive lineman Greg Hayward (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community), senior kicker/punter Spencer Nolen (Columbia, Tenn./Nevada/UT-Chattanooga/Columbia Central), senior offensive lineman Brian Studnicka (Palos Hills, Ill./Stagg), junior linebackers Alex Walters (Lisle, Ill./Montini Catholic) and Jacek Wesolowski (Justice, Ill./Argo).
In order to be nominated as a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, have achieved junior academic status and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale to qualify for the honor.
