Fort Lauderdale, Fla. - Junior guard Suzie Broski (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) hit 10 of her 17 shot attempts for 21 points on the day to pace four Saint Xavier University players in double figures in a convincing 93-72 win over No. 19 ranked Briar Cliff University (Iowa) Friday at the Cruzin Classic in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The Cougars (11-3 overall) shot 57 percent (40-for-70) from the field as a team Friday, including an amazing 71 percent clip (25-for-35) in the first half. The hot shooting helped SXU to an early 20-6 lead and a 57-34 halftime edge. The big first half was the second time in the past three games that Saint Xavier has scored 57 points in a half.
Junior forward Morgan Stuut (Marcellus, Mich./Three Rivers) recorded a rare basketball feat notching a triple-double with 17 points, 16 rebounds and 12 assists. Red-shirt freshman guard Sidney Prasse (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) hit five three-pointers (5-for-9) for 19 points, while senior point guard Jordan Brandt (Winamac, Ind./Winamac) chipped in 12 points along with five assists and four steals. Saint Xavier had 11 of its 12 active players score in Friday's dominant win. The Cougars were not just led by their offense, but their defense as well. Briar Cliff finished with 28 turnovers in the game thanks in part to 20 SXU steals. The Cougars also recorded 30 assists as a unit Friday.
Saint Xavier (11-3 overall/4-1 CCAC) takes some time off for the holiday season before returning to action on Saturday, December 28, to host the two-day SXU Holiday Classic at the Shannon Center. The Cougars take on Ashford University (Iowa) that Saturday at 1 p.m. and then play Lourdes University (Ohio) on Sunday, December 29, at noon.
