Junior Marie Hackert - 2013 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete

Kansas City, Mo. – Junior middle hitter Marie Hackert (Evansville, Ind./Reitz Memorial) and junior setter Kelli Shaffer (Heyworth, Ill./Heyworth) both represented Saint Xavier University as two of 391 NAIA volleyball student-athletes nationwide named as 2013 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes when the honors were released by the national office Friday.  The pair, both graphic design & marketing majors at SXU, helped lead the Cougars to a 16-14 overall record this season behind team-bests of 287 kills and 63 block assists for Hackert and 875 set assists and 36 service aces for Shaffer.     

In order to be nominated as a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, have achieved junior academic status and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale to qualify for the honor.
