CHICAGO – Anna O'Hara, a senior outside hitter at Traverse City West Senior High School in Traverse City, Mich., recently signed a letter of intent to continue both her athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar women's volleyball program. The Traverse City native will be a freshman at SXU and compete for playing time on the court in the fall of 2014.
O'Hara is the daughter of Pat and Pam O'Hara of Traverse City. She was coached by her father, Pat, during her club volleyball career. Earlier this year, O'Hara was named to the Big North All-Conference First Team, All-Region First Team, All-Area Dream Team and third team all-state selection. She was also the team captain of the Traverse City Thunder 18U AAU Team in 2012-13 and was a second team all-conference selection in 2012. During her senior season, Traverse City West won the Big North Conference for the first time in seven seasons and the regional championship for the first time in eight seasons. The team also qualified for the "Elite Eight" in the state of Michigan playoffs for the first time in eight seasons as well.
"Anna is going to come in and fill an immediate need for our team as a six rotation outside attacker," said SXU women's volleyball coach Robert Heersema. "Two of the things that stood out for me right away with Anna she that is very coachable and has a strong work ethic. Her high school team had a huge season and Anna was a big reason for that. She will be a great addition to our program."
