CHICAGO - Paced by junior guard/forward Morgan Stuut (Marcellus, Mich./Three Rivers) with a huge double-double effort of 20 points and 20 rebounds, the No. 13 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team defeated the visiting Judson University Eagles, 75-65, in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action on Bob Hallberg Court Saturday afternoon at the Shannon Center in Chicago. Stuut had an all-around great game that included five assists, four blocked shots and a steal. Junior guard/forward Suzie Broski (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) also scored in double figures for SXU finishing with 19 points (8-for-15).
The game was close early on before an offensive rebound and a lay-up by Stuut broke an 11-11 tie at the 12:30 mark and sparked a 24-9 run for the Cougars that was capped off by a three-pointer from freshman guard Mikayla Leyden
(Chicago, Ill./Trinity), giving Saint Xavier a 35-19 lead. A late run by Judson cut into the lead and SXU went into halftime ahead, 37-28. The Cougars never trailed in the second half and were aided by a pair of three-point baskets by senior guard Jordan Brandt
(Winamac, Ind./Winamac) midway through the second half. Brandt finished with eight points and five assists. SXU tied a season-high for blocked shots with nine in the game.
Saint Xavier (8-3 overall/3-1 CCAC) heads to Arlington Heights, Ill., on Saturday, December 14, for a conference match-up with Robert Morris University. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at the RMU Athletic & Convocation Center in Arlington Heights.
