Joliet, Ill. - Facing two of the elite teams in NAIA basketball during the seven-day period ending Nov. 24, Saint Xavier University senior guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) authored scoring nights of no less than 27 points in each contest to earn Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week accolades when it was announced Wednesday morning. Karp averaged 28.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.5 steals per game in contests against NAIA No. 1-ranked and defending national champion Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) and No. 16 Arizona Christian University (NAIA Division I) last week.
The CCAC Player of the Year last season, Karp opened the week with his second double-double of the new campaign totaling 30 points and 10 rebounds in an 82-74 setback to Cardinal Stritch last Wednesday. He also recorded four steals. Out in Arizona on Friday, Karp showed no signs of jet lag producing 27 points, five steals, four rebounds and three assists in an 83-76 loss to Arizona Christian. Ranked No. 11 in the NAIA Preseason Coaches' Top 25 Poll, Saint Xavier is currently 5-2 on the season.
Saint Xavier takes a couple of days off for the Thanksgiving holiday before hosting the four-team SXU Thanksgiving Classic starting on Friday, November 29. The Cougars take on No. 17 ranked Madonna University (Mich.) at 6 p.m. Friday before wrapping up the Classic on Saturday with a 3 p.m. match-up against Indiana University-East.
