Palos Heights, Ill. - With only two of its players getting a shot on goal in the game, the No. 5 ranked Saint Xavier University women's soccer team had trouble getting its offense in sync Wednesday night and dropped its first game of the season, 2-0, to No. 23 Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in Palos Heights, Ill. With the loss, the Cougars drop to 7-1 overall on the season and 1-1 in the conference standings, while the Trolls improve to 8-1 overall and 1-0 in league play.
Senior forward Lissa Coby (Ingleside, Ill./Grant Community) and freshman forward Kelly Steinhaus (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) each had a shot on goal in the game for SXU. Trinity Christian scored its first goal in the 23rd minute when sophomore forward Alyssa Lee scored off an assist from junior midfielder Mindi Harkema. Leading 1-0 at halftime, the Trolls added an insurance goal in the 86th minute when junior forward Nicole Billin found the back of the net. Freshman defender Kristen Chockley provided the assist on TCC's second goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Danielle Wagner (Worth, Ill./University of Illinois/Stagg) finished with five saves for Saint Xavier University. The Trolls out-shot the Cougars, 14-5, in the game, including a 7-2 advantage for shots on goal.
SXU (7-1 overall) continues its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) slate on Friday, September 21, with a home game against rival University of St. Francis (Ill.). The game is slated for a 5 p.m. start at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
