Bourbonnais, Ill. - Jumping out to a 24-2 lead and helping cause 30 turnovers off 16 steals in the game, the No. 9 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team put together a dominant 82-40 win over Mid-Continent University (Ky.) Saturday afternoon in its final game of the Holiday Inn Express Classic hosted by Olivet Nazarene University at McHie Arena in Bourbonnais, Ill. The Cougars had four players score in double figures Saturday led by junior forward Morgan Stuut (Marcellus, Mich./Three Rivers) with 20 points and 12 rebounds. SXU was also impressive on the boards pulling down 60 rebounds to aid the winning effort.
Other key contributors Saturday for Saint Xavier were junior forward Margaret Wildner
(Oak Lawn, Ill./Mother McAuley) with 12 points and eight rebounds, while junior guard Suzie Broski
(Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) and sophomore forward Caitlin McMahon
(Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) each chipped in 10 points. McMahon also tallied a double-double performance with 10 rebounds. The Cougars got off to a hot start taking a 22-point lead (24-2) in the opening eight minutes of play. The tough SXU defense limited Mid-Continent to just 15 points and 17 percent shooting (5-for-29) in the first half en route to a 42-15 lead at the break.
Saint Xavier (5-2 overall/1-1 CCAC) takes some time off for Thanksgiving and gets back to action on Saturday, November 30, taking part in the two-day Siena Heights University (Mich.) Tournament in Adrian, Mich. The Cougars take on the host Saints at 4 p.m. (eastern) that Saturday.
