CHICAGO - Spurred by a moving letter from sophomore infielder Kasey Kanaga (Metamora, Ill./Metamora), the Saint Xavier University softball team rallied around its distressed teammate and began collecting donations and useful items to help aid the massive destruction caused by Sunday's tornado in Washington, Ill.  Kanaga, who hails from neighboring Metamora, Ill., had a number of her friends and family members directly affected by the devastating natural disaster.  Many of whom lost most, if not all, of their material possessions.  The softball team spent most of this week gathering items desperately in need (food, bottled water, money, clothes, etc.) from around its Chicago campus and the surrounding community and loaded one of the SXU Athletics' travel buses this morning in order to hand deliver the items Friday downstate.

The entire Saint Xavier University Athletics Department has rallied around the cause and is still asking for donations in any form be delivered to the Shannon Center in the coming weeks.  The Cougar softball team plans to make additional visits to help with the relief effort in the near future.  All donations can be dropped off in the SXU Athletics office on the second floor of the Shannon Center.
