CHICAGO - Behind a goal and two assists from senior forward Alex Duncan (Orland Park, Ill./Moraine Valley CC), the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team scored three second-half goals to pull away in a 4-0 victory over visiting Iowa Wesleyan College (Iowa) Monday at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. Sophomore goalkeeper Ian Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) earned the shutout in goal and finished with three saves on the day.

The Cougars scored their first goal in the game's 16th minute (16:38) when Duncan was able to ricoquet a corner kick attempt over to sophomore midfielder Melchor Castro (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick) for the goal. Leading 1-0 at the half, SXU poured on the offense in the second half with Duncan leading the way with a header off a corner kick from Castro just under five minutes into the second half (49:55). The third goal came from sophomore defender Brendan Falloon (Orland Park, Ill./Illinois Tech), who found the back of the net off another assist from Duncan with just less than 12 minutes to play (78:11) in regulation. Sophomore forward Zach Kekelik (Merrillville, Ind./Crown Point) scored the game's final goal when he scored unassisted off a ball that bounced off the cross bar with 10 minutes to play in the game (79:35).

Saint Xavier (1-1 overall) returns to action on Saturday, September 8, with a non-conference road game against St. Ambrose University (Iowa). The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start in Davenport, Iowa.
