Joliet, Ill. – Senior goalkeeper Kyle Held (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) highlighted five Saint Xavier University men's soccer players recognized on the 2013 All-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Soccer Team when the conference announced the awards late Saturday in conjunction with the CCAC Men's Soccer Tournament Championship. Held earned first team recognition for the Cougars, while junior defender Xavier Corona (Cicero, Ill./Morton College/Morton), sophomore forward Marco Gutierrez (Stone Park, Ill./St. Joseph), senior defender Dale Judickas (Hickory Hills, Ill./South Suburban CC/Stagg) and junior midfielder Brandon Simoes (Brampton, Ontario, Canada/Olivet Nazarene/St. Edmund Campion) all earned second team honors.
Held led the Cougars with 73 saves, a goal-against average (GAA) of 1.31 and four shutouts despite missing five games this season due to injury. His win-loss record as the starting keeper in 2013 was 7-4-2. Gutierrez led SXU in goals scored (10), assists (4) and total scoring (24). Simoes was tough as well on the offensive end recording nine goals and three assists for 21 points. Corona and Judickas were instrumental in leading a defensive effort that allowed just 1.09 goals per game in conference play. Both Corona and Judickas each scored a goal for SXU this season, while Judickas had two assists and Corona added one.
Saint Xavier finished its 2013 campaign with a 7-10-2 overall record and finished sixth in the final CCAC regular season standings at 6-4-1. SXU took the No. 6 seed into the 2013 CCAC Men's Soccer Tournament and advanced to the semifinals before falling to No. 2 seed Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.).
