Palos Heights, Ill. - Senior guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) led all scorers with 29 points as the No. 11 ranked Saint Xavier University men's basketball team stayed undefeated (4-0) with an 108-68 victory over Great Lakes Christian College (Mich.) Saturday afternoon in the final day of the Trinity Christian College Troll Classic in Palos Heights, Ill. The Cougars jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead en route to a 68-36 halftime lead and as many as a 42-point advantage in the second half. SXU shot 54 percent (41-for-76) from the field in the game.
Karp also helped the Cougars on the boards joining junior forward Brandon Marren
(Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) to each pull down a team-leading seven rebounds. Senior point guard Michael Simpson
(North Chicago, Ill./Cardinal Stritch/North Chicago) chipped in 17 points and four assists, while Marren scored 14 points in a reserve role to go along with his seven boards. Sophomore forward Tony Core
(Matteson, Ill./Tinley Park) completed the double-digit scorers for SXU Saturday with 10 points on impressive 5-for-6 shooting from the floor. The Cougars had 12 different players score at least a point in Saturday's win.
Saint Xavier (4-0 overall) get ready for a very tough test on Wednesday, November 20, when the team heads up north to Milwaukee for a key conference match-up against No. 1 ranked and defending national champion Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.). The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
