CHICAGO – Mere hours after earning the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Volleyball Player of the Week award, junior middle hitter Marie Hackert (Evansville, Ind./Reitz Memorial) continued her impressive play for Saint Xavier University in a four-set win over conference foe Roosevelt University (Ill.) Tuesday night at the Goodman Center in Chicago. The Cougars (15-13 overall/8-8 CCAC) dropped the first set by a score of 25-19, but then took the next three sets and the match, 25-18, 25-20 and 25-18. Hackert led SXU with 13 kills and five total blocks (one solo) in Tuesday's victory.
Junior setter Kelli Shaffer
(Heyworth, Ill./Heyworth) was tough as well with 35 assists, two service aces, four kills and six digs. Junior defensive specialist/outside hitter Jessica Galotta
(Chicago, Ill./Parkland CC/Mother McAuley) and sophomore middle blocker/outside hitter Heidi Gregerson
(Park Ridge, Ill./UW-Parkside/Maine South) each racked up nine kills to aid the Cougars' offensive efforts. Junior libero Dominique Aramburu
(Chicago, Ill./UIC/Mother McAuley) scooped up a team-high 11 digs to go along with a pair of aces, while Galotta was also tough on defense with 10 digs for SXU.
Saint Xavier (15-13 overall/8-8 CCAC) wraps up its regular season slate on Thursday, November 7, with a home match against conference foe Judson University (Ill.). The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start and parents of all the SXU players on the 2013 roster will be recognized prior to the match.
