Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University swept the field of volleyball weekly honors in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) after opening the season with a 3-1 record at the University of Michigan-Dearborn Earlybird Tournament over the weekend. Highlighting SXU's trio of winners was senior outside hitter Jessica Synowiecki (Oak Lawn, Ill./Moraine Valley CC), who garnered Player of the Week honors after earning a spot on the all-tournament team at University of Michigan-Dearborn.
Synowiecki led her squad in kills in all four matches, totaling 45 in 12 games played to average 3.75 kills per game. Synowiecki also averaged 3.50 digs per game on defense and was credited with seven aces. Running the offense for the Cougars was senior Traci Looby (Orland Hills, Ill./Andrew), who claimed CCAC Setter of the Week honors in the league. Looby recorded no less than 30 assists in three of the SXU's four matches and averaged 10.58 assists over 12 games. She also averaged nearly an ace per game with 11 total. Defensively, Looby posted an average of 2.50 digs per game.
Saint Xavier's defense was led by senior specialist Emily Soto (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Junior College). Soto averaged 5.33 digs per game and had a .946 passing percentage en route to conference Libero of the Week recognition. Included in Soto's dig count was a weekend-high 20 digs in a three-set loss to Cornerstone University (Mich.). She also authored eight aces alone in a straight-set win over Rochester College (Mich.). Saint Xavier's other two wins in the tournament came in the minimum three games opposite Bethel College (Ind.) and Spring Arbor University (Mich.).
Saint Xavier (3-1 overall) returns to action on Tuesday, September 4, to open up its conference slate against rival University of St. Francis (Ill.). The match begins at 7:30 p.m. in Joliet, Ill.Click here to go to the CCAC Player of the Week page.
