CHICAGO - An early goal by sophomore forward Marco Gutierrez (Stone Park, Ill./St. Joseph) ended up being the difference as the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team secured a 1-0 non-conference victory over Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Wednesday night at Stuart Field in Chicago.  Gutierrez scored the game-winning goal in just the fourth minute of action Wednesday.  Senior keeper Kyle Held (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) was also instrumental in the victory for SXU recording six saves on the night en route to his fourth shutout of the season.  With the win, Saint Xavier evens up its overall record at 7-7-1.

The Cougars finished the game with 10 total shots with five of them on goal.  The Scarlet Hawks tallied 16 total shots Wednesday with six of them on goal.  The victory wraps up a very successful month for SXU with the team posting a 6-1-1 record over its eight games in October, including a 5-1-1 mark in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) contests.

Saint Xavier (7-7-1 overall/6-2-1 CCAC) gets back to conference play on Saturday, November 2.  The Cougars host Roosevelt University (Ill.) at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
