CHICAGO – A goal by freshman midfielder Christina Sperando (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) in the 39th minute of play proved to be the game-winner in a 1-0 victory for Saint Xavier University over Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in women's soccer action Tuesday night at Stuart Field in Chicago. The Cougars (5-10-1 overall) tallied 18 total shots in the game, including seven on goal. Junior keeper Danielle Koncius (Palos Hills, Ill./Heartland CC/Stagg) got the start in goal for SXU and finished with three saves en route to her first shutout of the season.
Sophomore forward Christina Szocka (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) led the attack for SXU Tuesday night recording four shots, including three on-goal attempts. The Cougar defense played tough as well limiting the Scarlet Hawks to just 15 total shots and three shots on goal.
Saint Xavier (5-10-1 overall/2-7-0 CCAC) returns home on Saturday, November 2, for its final regular season game of the 2013 season. The Cougars host Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Roosevelt University (Ill.) at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Deaton Field in Chicago. Prior to the game, SXU will honor the seniors on its 2013 roster.
